- Saini got the man of the match award in his maiden T20I appearance.
- Saini has got 120 wickets from 43 first-class matches with three five-wicket lifts.
- Saini has previous been the Indian team’s net bowler and a cover for Bhuvneshwar Kumar as the ICC World Cup.
Surprised with his skill-set, the Indian team management has chosen to keep speedster Navdeep Saini as a net bowler for the 2-Test series against the West Indies, trying to groom him for future red-ball responsibilities.
The Indian team has Navdeep Saini, who performs national cricket for Delhi, made his T20 International debut upon the West Indies in Florida and got the man of the match award in his maiden appearance.
He has previously been the Indian team’s net bowler and a cover for Bhuvneshwar Kumar during the ICC World Cup in England as excellent. “Yes, Navdeep Saini has been requested to visit behind by the team management for the Test series.
He will visit back primarily as a net bowler. They need to prepare him for the Test format having an eye on the future,” a senior BCCI official told on Mon.
Navdeep Saini bowled 6-overs during the West Indies A first innings in the continuous training match to give Rest to Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami didn’t bowl in the 1st innings. “Saini has been a player in red-ball cricket for the past few years. He has the speed, and ability to hit the deck, move the ball both in air and off the pitch.
“If he is prepared well, it will only improve our pool of fast bowlers for the top line cricket. That’s how the team management is watching at him,”
The official told. It is thought that if Saini visits back, it will improve bowling coach Bharath Arun to spend more time in the 26-year-old Karnal-lad, who has gained 120 wickets from 43 1st-class games with 35-wicket hauls.
“One can’t overlook the work that Arun has put in to make India’s quick bowling unit the best that has developed from the country. Rather than performing domestic cricket, he now wants to be in and around the international scene and get the tricks of the trade for the next level,”
He told. India will play 5-Test matches at home this vacation with 3-against South Africa and 2- against Bangladesh.
It will not be a bad idea to blood Saini against Bangladesh since the management would be watching Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami’s workloads.
