National Film Award for Badhaai Ho is Gratifying, Says Sanya Malhotra

Whether it’s her debut film in Bollywood Dangal, or last year’s surprise hit Badhaai Ho, actress Sanya Malhotra’s choice of movies shows her true nature towards great scripts. If Dangal went on to become Bollywood’s blockbuster ever, Badhaai Ho has got the 2019 National Award National for Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Sanya tells such affection for films with good stories is genuinely pleasant.

Sanya Malhotra says that she knew Badhaai Ho would be an extraordinary film because the subject was different and that such appreciation for films with good stories is genuinely gratifying.

“When I learned the story of Badhaai Ho, I knew it would be an extraordinary movie because the subject was different. This was one of these films where I took no time to say ‘yes’. The value of appreciation we have received from the audience and experts is unbelievable.

That is why the National Film Award success is satisfying,” Sanya told IANS.

“We had the same reaction when we were preparing Dangal. When finally the movie came out, and people began showered love, the fact was performing for all of us that the story had caused many girls,” added Sanya. Her co-star Zaira Wasim had won the National Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2017 for Dangal.

Since Sanya played a crucial part in Dangal as well as Badhaai Ho, does she think herself a successful mascot for film-makers who need their movies to win the National Film Awards?

“I think I am lucky to be a member of these films rather than me being the lucky factor,” she laughed, adding, “Everyone in Badhaai Ho was a famous actor-be it Neena (Gupta) Ji, Gajraj (Rao) Ji, or Surekha (Sikri) Ji.”

Sikri got a National Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the film. “When good talent cooperates with the right story & director, a good film happens,” summed up the actress, who is lately busy shooting Anurag Basu’s next film.
