West Bengal governor Jagdeep guv Dhankhar take part in Kali Puja at Mamata Banerjee’s home on Sunday evening and killed more than an hour talking with the chief minister, members of the committee and guests. He also pleaded before the idol of Kali and saw the puja.
Though the place set up outside Banerjee’s small single storey house at Kalighat in southern Kolkata was out of bounds for the tools,
Dhankhar could be seen holding Trinamool Congress (TMC) secretary-general and culture minister Partha Chatterjee & exchanging jokes with him. The chief minister included Dhankhar to some TMC leaders, bureaucrats.
This came after weeks of headline-grabbing hatred between Raj Bhavan and the ruling TMC leads.
Dhankhar was sworn in on Jul 30. The 1st event to grab the leaders was on Sept 19, when Dhankhar raced to Jadavpur University, of which is the chancellor, to protect Union minister Babul Supriyo who was gheraoed by a group of moving students.
Following that conflict, the governor examined the government for not paying enough attention to the Jiaganj triple-murder in which a primary school teacher, his expecting wife & their six-year-old son were killed. Police newly cracked the case and got the prime suspect.
Trinamool leaders, particularly the education minister, alleged on different times that the governor overstepped his role.
The scenario seemed to be turning when Dhankhar told on Saturday that he would visit the Kali Puja at Banerjee’s residence and insisted that the invite from the chief minister sincerely honoured him.
“The puja at her home began in 1978. My wife and I are pleased. We would visit her residence tomorrow to visit the puja,” Dhankhar stated in Barasat, about 30-km apart from Kolkata, where he had gone to begin a Kali Puja. “We are free and accepted by the invite. We drop our heads,” he added.
On Oct 21, the governor had signed to the chief minister expressing his plan to visit her place on Oct 29, on the season of Bhaiphonta, a day he called as “special for brothers & sisters.”
guv Dhankhar take part in Kali Puja at Banerjee, who was gone on a trip to northern Bengal at that time wrote to Dhankhar on Oct 24, inviting him and his wife to meet her on the day of Kali Puja. A report from Raj Bhavan said the chief minister had explained that she would be preoccupied with matters of public harmony on the day of Bhaiphonta.
“Normally, a governor of a state would visit the home of the chief minister just as it is common for government officers to attend a meeting called by a governor,” replied Sayantan Basu,
one of the joint secretaries of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Sat, in a subtle dig that referred to the executive officers staying away from conferences called by Dhankhar in Siliguri on Sept 24 and North and South 24 Parganas districts on October 22.ncidentally, on Aug 15,
which was more the day of Rakshabandhan, where 64-year old Mamata Banerjee went to Raj Bhavan and tied rakhi to 68-year-old Dhankar.
