Gang Leader works mainly because of Nani’s star power and lively performance. Anirudh Ravichander’s music is a big highlight.

Screenplay And Direction
Gang leader hits a chord with the game audience due to its original storyline and creative presentation. The opening course is quite compelling and makes for a substantial impact. While the rest of the first half is not as good as expected, it leads to entertaining nonetheless. Things pick up big time in the 2nd half because of the cleverly done twists and turns. In various ways, the ‘real fun’ starts after the interval. The climax, though, is a big let down as it comes across as a bit rough and forced. The other huge problem is that, unlike Manam, Gang Leader does not have an emotional connect, which might upset a specific section of the audience.
Nani is very good and affects all and sundry with his funny timing. RX 100 star Karthikeya too leads to make an impression while showcasing his range as a performer. His robust physique enhances the effect of his performance. Lakshmi is in top form and shows that she has ‘still got it’. Newcomer Priyanka Arul Mohan is surely okay and takes not make much of an impression.
Anirudh Ravichander’s tunes are quite impressive, adding a new dimension to the on-screen action. The editing, however, is quite lacklustre as Gang Leader feels a bit lengthy and drags at specific points. The other technical departments have been managed well.
